That’s A Awful Lotta Cough Syrup Hosts 420 CannaFest Event at Melrose Store Location

Updated: 3 days ago

Desto Dubb’s cannabis-inspired streetwear drop, live contests, signature drinks, and community vibes defined this year’s CannaFest celebration.

Los Angeles’ Melrose Avenue set the scene this 4/20 as That’s A Awful Lotta Cough Syrup, the popular streetwear and cannabis lifestyle brand founded by Desto Dubb, transformed its flagship store into the hub for its annual CannaFest event.

The celebration was hosted by Ms. Corrie Renee of 93.5 KDAY, who kept the energy high with live crowd interaction, music, and two fan-favorite contests: a Blunt Rolling Competition and a Biggest Smoke Cloud Challenge. While Desto Dubb himself took the spotlight for rolling the fastest blunt, the final decision rested with the crowd, who crowned their choice before the winner sparked it right on the spot.

The day also marked the release of Desto Dubb’s latest 420 merch collection, a drop that combined bold graphics and the brand’s signature streetwear edge. Fans lined up early to secure limited pieces, underscoring the ongoing demand for the label’s cannabis culture-meets-LA fashion identity.

Music fueled the afternoon thanks to DJ Skyfall, who spun a seamless blend of old-school favorites and current hits, giving the event a soundtrack worthy of the occasion. Alongside the tunes, guests enjoyed a selection of signature cocktails with names like the Sativa Margarita, A Spliff, and Friday After Next. I opted for the Friday After Next — a fresh mint and cognac mix that delivered the perfect balance of smooth and refreshing, thanks to a personal recommendation from Ronnell, who kept the event running smoothly and teased the soon-to-launch Houston store location.

Across the street, local shop Sprinklez joined the celebration by hosting a cannabis-themed Easter egg hunt. Attendees left with gifts like black light posters, eighths, and more. I had a chance to chat with JJ, the owner, about the shop’s upcoming grand opening, which promises to add even more flavor to the block’s cannabis community.

Capping off the day, I stopped by Park Burger for a bite — and after hearing from the staff that the company is woman-owned, I took their advice and ordered the Spicy Mo Burger, the owner’s personal favorite. The burger exceeded expectations, packed with flavor and paired with perfectly crisp fries, rounding out an afternoon that celebrated LA’s unique cannabis culture, creativity, and local entrepreneurship.

Special thanks to Cathy, Desto Dubb’s publicist, for providing full access to cover the event. With the brand’s Houston expansion on the horizon, That’s A Awful Lotta Cough Syrup is clearly only getting started.

The culture moves fast, but my ink is quicker.

Pynnderella.

Holler.
